Pod 02 – Hashtags for Online Reputation Marketing

Hey, how are you doing this as Chris? Your friendly neighborhood, Internet Sherpa. Welcome to C2Local, the podcast with the self-appointed mission of trying to change local marketing from something you think about to something you actually do.

All right. So here’s the deal. This apparently is episode number two. So I guess we’re off and running a little further than I thought we were. So let me tell you what I got for you today. Really, really interesting thing came through the door. It has to do with a thing called online reputation marketing. Before your eyes roll back in your head, bear with me. I’ll keep it short and make it actionable.

Let me set the table for you. I’m sitting at home, minding my own business, vegging out on YouTube. I totally missed the entire Game of Thrones thing. I have no idea how I did it, but I did. So, I’m bingeing on Game of Thrones reaction videos and my phone goes off. I take a look and it’s my Google My Business app.

Doing what I do, you can imagine that there’s more than just my business that gets pinged when people leave reviews out and about. Sometimes it’s for me and sometimes it’s for the crew.

If it’s for me, easy peasy, I know exactly what to do with it. There’s no rush. If it’s for the crew, then I need to throw an eyeball on it. I need to find out whether it’s a one-star review that just came in or a five-star review that just came in or something somewhere in between. As you can imagine, a five-star review gets a much different reception than a one star review.

With a five star review, I usually just have to say, Hey, make sure you leave a reply. Thank them for leaving a review and all that good stuff.

One star? Sometimes we have to do a little bit of strategizing to make sure that we come up with a response that makes some sense and get some goodness. You gotta turn lemons into lemonade.

Well that is what’s called online reputation management. It’s playing the ball where it lies. There’s nothing wrong with that. But I’m more of an aggressive sort. I like what’s called “online reputation marketing.” Once a review it comes in, then you put it to work because your reputation is a thing of beauty.

In this particular case, the review that came in was for one of my peeps that’s into online reputation marketing.

I’m gonna throw this one out at you. You can do this. It’s really, really simple. The concept is simple. There’s a little technical to stuff to it. If you need some help, give me a call.

When you get a good review. Don’t just let it sit there on Google or Yelp. You’ve got to remember, your reputation is live and breathe and thing. You gotta make that thing grow.

You got to make a go working go. So instead of just leaving a review, sitting over on Google, instead of leaving it sitting just over on Yelp, put some wings under it, give it a red bull, make it fly. Take a few words off that bad boy, because if you think about it, a review is nothing more than content and repurpose it. Take that review. Not the whole thing. Cause it might be a line might be a little wordy, but they’re really good meaty parts of it. That would mean something to somebody who is interested in what you do. And then you go get an image and you put those two together. You know how that looks and then hashtag the, but Jesus out of it, go location, go specialty cool, ancillary or related services. Instagram people hashtag on Instagram, people hashtag on Facebook and such like that.

You take those good words, you slap it with an image. You slap that bad boy on Instagram and Facebook too. And then you hashtag it and then put a link going back to your website. So when people eyeball that and go, Hmm, interesting. Let me see some more. They know where to go. And all of a sudden you lead them back to ground zero, your website, where they can see all that goodness. Or if you want to get the link and send them over to where they can see more of your reviews, however you do it, send them somewhere. But don’t let that review, just sit there and gather dust in that natural spot, bring it out and repurpose it. And that’s all you need to image words. Hashtags links put those together. And all of a sudden you’ve got a nice little cocktail of goodness that takes that brand of yours and makes it go a lot further than it was already going to go on its own.

And this is why you need to go get those reviews because you can make them dance, make them dance. I say, all right, I think I’m going to cut it off here because that’s really what I wanted to tell you about. And even if you don’t do it, let let it simmer percolate on that bad boy for a little bit. You got some good reviews sitting over there, right? If you don’t, then let’s go get yourself. But if you’ve already got some reach out there, pull some of the goodness out there, give it a shot and Oh, by the way, for our bounce out of here.
